Far from the night markets and quiet kitchens of my childhood, I missed home in ways I couldn’t quite explain. One day, I bought strawberries, boiled sugar, and made tanghulu, the traditional Chinese dessert I used to crave for as a child.

The first crack of the sugar shell took me back. In that moment, I felt comfort. I felt connection. I felt home.
